QUIRIMBA SAILING SAFARI

This extraordinary water safari takes you to the still largely undeveloped Quirimbas archipelago in northern Mozambique with its dream beaches and enchanted islands.

Day 1 | arrival
A small plane will take you from Pemba to Ibo Island. On many islands of the Quirimba archipelago there are fantastically beautiful sandy beaches, especially on the main islands of Qurimba and Ibo Island. About 8,000 people of the Mwani tribe also live here, an ethnic group with a strong Arabic influence and their own language, which is similar to East African Swahili. The customs and rituals of the Mwani are very much alive. In addition to the newly created resorts for those seeking peace and quiet on Quirimba, the island of Ibo Island is also interesting for visitors, as it is considered a “fascinating ghost town” from the 18th century. You will spend the first day in the beautiful Ibo Island Lodge.

Day 2 – 3 | sailing safari
Today you leave the island and sail north towards the Quirimbas Archipelago. Turquoise water invites you to snorkel. Discover numerous exotic fish. The sailing route takes you to Matemo Island where you will pitch your tent for the next 2 days.
Camping on Matemo Island.

Day 4 – 5 | sailing safari
Today you will sail further south towards the Quirimbas Archipelago and discover the island that gave the group its name. Here you will find an old church, original villages and a lot of culture.
The next day visit Quisiva Island and Mefunvo Island.
Camp on Quirimba Island.

Day 6 – 7 | Ibo Island
After your sailing trip, you will dock in Ulumba today and drive to Ibo Island Lodge, where you will enjoy a fantastic swim at the powdered sugar level on a pristine sandbank of Ibo Island. In the 16th century, the island developed into the second most important trading center in Mozambique. To protect the island, the Portuguese built a fort. Others followed, which can still be seen today. In the largest fort there is now a silversmith who makes traditional jewellery. On a guided excursion to the region you will get to know the culture of the islanders.

Day 8 | home trip
Today you will be transferred by light aircraft on a fantastic panoramic flight to Pemba, from where you will board your flight home or another itinerary.
