SOUTH AFRICA-THE WORLD IN ONE COUNTRY

This 20-day lodge safari from Johannesburg to Cape Town offers you everything: exciting wildlife, breathtaking scenery and insights into the culture and history of South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland.
Highlights of this trip are the Panorama Route, game drives in Kruger National Park, Kingdom of Swaziland, St Lucia boat trip and game drive in Hluhluwe National Park, hiking in the Drakensberg, Lesotho 4WD Route, Garden Route, Cango Caves and Cape Town.

Day 1 | Arrival in Johannesburg
On arrival in Johannesburg you will be picked up and taken to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 2 | Johannesburg-Mpumalanga
Depart Johannesburg and head east to Mpumalanga. The landscape is characterized by mountains, spectacular passes, valleys, rivers, waterfalls and forests. You stay overnight in Graskop – a small town with forestry. Graskop is located in the Drakensberg and is at the starting point of the beautiful Panorama Route and close to the Kruger National Park.

Day 3 – 4 | Kruger National Park
In the morning drive along the scenic Panorama Route, one of the most beautiful destinations in South Africa. The most spectacular part is the Blyde River Canyon, the third largest canyon in the world, filled with lush plant and animal life.
Stop at Bourke’s Luck Potholes and marvel at the imposing rock formations that were sculpted by erosion thousands of years ago. In the afternoon your safari adventure begins in the famous Kruger National Park. You will spend two nights in the park and in the morning and afternoon you will have the chance to encounter African wildlife on exciting game drives in our vehicle.

Day 5 – 6 | Swaziland
Today you cross the border into the mountainous Kingdom of Swaziland, ruled by King Mswati III and one of 3 monarchies in Africa. The Swazi people are proud of their traditional lifestyle and culture. We will spend two nights at Mlilwane Game Reserve, Swaziland’s premier wildlife sanctuary, located in the Valley of Heaven.
In addition to the species-rich bird life, there are a variety of animal species, e.g. hippos, giraffes, zebras and various antelopes, which we hope to see on the guided walk in the afternoon.
The next day you’ll visit Umphakatsi Chief’s homestead. There you have the opportunity to get active and you can try your hand at grinding corn and weaving baskets, or you can sing and dance with the children.
A selection of local food is offered for tasting, but please forget your cutlery and try it the Swazi way… with your hands .

Day 7 – 8 | Zululand
Today, after visiting a craft market, return to South Africa via northern Kwa-Zulu Natal. In the afternoon drive to iSimangaliso Wetland Park, South Africa’s first World Heritage Site.
Here you’ll enjoy a boat trip on Lake St Lucia, getting close to the resident hippos and crocodiles. Spend the next day exploring Hluhluwe-iMfolozi National Park on a game drive.
If you would like to take part in an additional game drive in an open safari vehicle, this can be booked at your own expense. Hluhluwe-iMmfolozi is the oldest reserve in Africa and a safe haven for the endangered white and black rhino.

Day 9 – 10 | Drakensberg
Move further inland where you will spend two nights in Northern Drakensberg. The area is known for its beautiful scenery including towering mountains, native forests and cool mountain streams.
At 3,482 meters is the Drakensberg, referred to in Zulu as uKhahlamba or the “Barrier of Spears”. It is South Africa’s highest mountain range and stretches its rugged shape approximately 1,000 kilometers from southwest to northeast.
You will explore this picturesque World Heritage Site on guided hikes.

Day 11 – 12 | Lesotho
Today you cross the border into the Kingdom of Lesotho, the southernmost landlocked country in the world with a wealth of natural beauty, flora, fauna and cultural heritage.
Malealea is located in a stunningly beautiful, remote region of western Lesotho. Here you have the opportunity to discover the traditional life of the Basotho with their strong traditions, beliefs and customs.
No visit to Lesotho would be complete without a pony ride and the next day you’ll take a trip on the Basotho’s main means of transport, as these hardy animals are better suited to the narrow trails than 4WD vehicles.

Day 13 | Cradock
Leaving behind the beauty of Lesotho, continue to the historic town of Cradock, known for spectacular starry nights and traditional Karoo hospitality.
The town was built in 1814 as a border fortress and has now developed into an important agricultural center for cattle, dairy and fruit growing. Cradock is a place of literary legends and the old town is adorned with some beautiful old buildings.

Day 14 | Addo Elephant Park
A benchmark success for animal welfare, Addo Elephant National Park is a unique wildlife sanctuary best known for its herds of elephants and flightless dung beetles.
In the afternoon embark on a game drive in our vehicle in search of elephant, black rhino, lion, buffalo and leopard. Spend the evening at an illuminated waterhole to observe the nocturnal animals.

Day 15 – 16 | Tsitsikamma
This morning after breakfast your journey continues along the southern coast of South Africa into a region of stunning beauty better known as the Garden Route. Spend two nights at Storms River Village, in the heart of the Tsitsikamma Forest.
Take a leisurely hike along one of the short trails and you will have the opportunity to explore the bushy vegetation and rocky coastline. There is also the option to bungee jump from the Bloukrans Bridge in the world (own expense).

Day 17 | Oudtshoorn
After visiting ‘The Heads’ in Knysna – a town set on a tranquil lagoon – head over the Outeniqua Mountains into the Little Karoo to Oudtshoorn.
Visit the famous Cango Caves with their impressive ancient stalagmites and stalactites before spending the night in the world capital of ostriches.

Day 18 – 19 | Cape Town
On the way to Cape Town visit the beautiful university town of Stellenbosch for a wine tasting and cellar tour. Arriving in Cape Town, the afternoon is free for leisure activities.
Enjoy a sundowner on one of the great beaches or indulge in some impromptu shopping at the V&A Waterfront. The next day explore the many attractions that the “mother city” has to offer on your Cape Point tour.

Day 20 | Cape Town
The last day is at your leisure. Depending on the weather, you can take a cable car ride up Table Mountain (own expense) and enjoy one last view of the Cape of Good Hope before your transfer to the airport.
